A manure friend is a damn fine idea. I do have a friend who is a very good cook. That's good too. In fact, he can work some beet magic in the kitchen too.

Appreciate the manure advice. (Check out Ali at Henbogle in my blogroll... great stuff everywhere and I got some horse dookie advice there).

Lumpy manure not for the garden this year.. but it will give my compost pile a great start this summer.

Beets are fab, especially roasted. I grow both red and golden beets for fun, both are equally delicious. Glad my advice helped at the horse farm. My other advice -- get manure from a friend who will load it for you and will dig for the good stuff. :-) I think your strategy will work great.
