Lumpy manure not for the garden this year.. but it will give my compost pile a great start this summer. A manure friend is a damn fine idea. I do have a friend who is a very good cook. I grow both red and golden beets for fun, both are equally delicious. Glad my advice helped at the horse farm. My other advice -- get manure from a friend who will load it for you and will dig for the good stuff. :-) I think your strategy will work great. Beets are fab, especially roasted.
